The Veil Portends

Choosing a name that pays subtle homage to the films of Jean Rollin, grEGORy simpson uses The Veil Portends as a means to create new music without regard for sonic boundaries or commercial success. It draws inspiration from imagined soundtracks, unwritten poetry, dreams and nightmares.

X Tomitheus

  1. Instrumental inspired by Italian giallo soundtracks.

  1. Modern world beat instrumental combining synthetic and traditional elements.


Grace Darling

C'est La Mort recording artists, Grace Darling were a duo comprising composer and instrumentalist, grEGORy simpson and vocalist, Val Martino. They produced three albums in the early 90's, scoring chart success on numerous college radio stations across the U.S. and Canada.

X I Bury My Love

  1. A gothic cult hit in 1991, thanks in part to its inclusion on Doctor Death's Vol. 5 "Hearts Lust in Limbo" compilation, as well as Grace Darling's debut album.

X Teardrops

  1. One of the four bittersweet romantic songs at the core of Grace Darling's Invisible album.

X Carousel

  1. Angry, schizophrenic counterpoint to the romantic mood of other songs on Grace Darling's Invisible album.

X Victoria Knows

  1. Another cult hit. This was included on 1992's Doctor Death's Vol. 6 "Floribundus" CD and is also one of the romantic songs forming the heart of Grace Darling's Invisible album.


Bartholomew Fair

grEGORy simpson (the composer and instrumentalist behind Grace Darling) and Sonya Waters (the vocalist for alternative rock group, Orange) formed Bartholomew Fair, a gothic “supergroup” in the early 1990’s.

X Never Never No / The Well

  1. Wordless vocals float over a gothic-inspired instrumentation before giving way to an intimate vocal set against sparse accompaniment.

X Hush

  1. Powerful and emotional — this 1991 recording remains Mr. Simpson's personal favorite of all his productions, past or present.


Work for Hire

  1. Techno composition created for a Flash animation to introduce Be Incorporated's new BeIA operating system (animation by Chris Sanders).
