Entertaining commentary. I get similar questions occasionally, but usually the fact that a Leica IIIf with a collapsible lens just doesn't look like anything that most people expect to see hanging off of my hippy strap, keeps them at a distance. The ones who do ask tend to be genuinely curious and wanting to learn. I will have to remember the "12" answer though, that is the best one I've heard yet for the appropriate circumstances.

love it, will keep coming back and re-reading, I love my m9 and i love the fact that here in new zealand even the most unsuspecting people know exactly what it is, like the guy in the parking station as we were leaving with my M9 under my arm, "is that an M9, awesome" :) I let him touch it, made his day . . . and mine.

Great article. You've highlighted all the reasons that led me to purchasing my Leica M6TTL.

It also doesn't telegraph that I'm a professional photographer. It looks more like a toy.

Thanks for sharing your considerable knowledge about photograhy and rangefinder cameras. You are a very skilled communicator - and would be a wonderful teacher. "Awesome" is, well...awesome. What better image to demonstrate your point about the suitability of the rangefinder for Street Photography.
